COLLEGE RULES AND REGULATIONS

The students are expected to maintain the dignity, decorum, discipline, politeness, honesty and neatness.

RAGGING IS STRICKLY PROPHIBITED INSIDE & OUTSIDE THE CAMPUS

Ragging is a crime in law. It is a cognizable offence. The Govt. of Tamil Nadu has banned ragging in educational institutions vide its order no.:7 of 1997 dated 14/02/1997, which makes ragging punishable as follows:

  • Imprisonment up to a term of 2 years and
  • A fine up to Rs.10,000 /- and
  • Dismissal from the Institution
  • The students so dismissed shall not be admitted to any other educational institution. The students are warned not to commit any act that could be construed as ragging.

    DRESS REGULATIONS
    • Boys :Tucked in Shirt, Full Pant, and Black leather shoe; Clean Shaven Face & decent hair cut; Jeans pants, Jean shirts and T-Shirts are strictly prohibited. Slippers and other foot wears are not permitted.
    • Girls :Churidhars with Dhupattas for BE students. Specially designed dress for final & pre-final students. Wearing saree is permitted on special occasions only. Slippers not allowed. Girl students can wear a simple gold chain, ear rings and bangle only.
    • The following dress regulations should be followed in the Lab / Workshop : For both boys and girls – half sleeve maroon colour lab coat in addition to regular dress code.
    • Conduct investigations of complex problems : Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
    • IDENTITY CARD : Each student will be provided with an identity card with his / her name and photo along with the University Registration. They should wear the identity card while inside the campus and in the college bus.
    • ASSEMBLY: To develop character, total personality and orderly behavior of students in society, regular Assembly & counseling sessions are conducted. Important announcements are made in the morning counseling session. All students and staff are required to attend the same.
    • VEHICLES : The students within the college or hostel campus shall use no powered vehicles of any type viz., motorcycle, scooters or cars. However day scholar students come by two wheelers shall park their vehicle in the back gate 02 on their own risk.
    • EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES : Students are welcome to enroll themselves in various clubs that function under extracurricular activities from 04:30 PM. to 07:00 PM. and sundays. They are encouraged to take part in all the programmes of the college and may contact the staff in charge of the activities.
    • SPORTS AND GAMES : Students are encouraged to make use of all the sports and games facilities available in the campus between 04:30 PM. and 07:00 PM. Students who are involved in the University sports and games events are advised to take care of their studies properly and achieve academic excellence also. The following Sports, Games and Recreation facilities are available in the campus:

    DEPARTMENT OF VALUE EDUCATION

    This department has been established with the sole purpose of producing value based professionals by equipping our students, the future engineers and managers of the nation, with moral and ethical values through the classes on value education, personal and referral counseling and also conducting programs that create social awareness. The counselors emphasize preventive and developmental counseling to provide students with the life skills needed to deal with problems.

    MENTOR SYSTEM

    Each student on admission to LITES will be assigned a teaching faculty called ‘Mentor’ to monitor/ accompany in his/ her academic journey until the completion of the degree. The student is expected to meet the mentor periodically for consultation and counseling

    GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL THROUGH

  • Regular meeting of the class/ hostel representations with HOD / Principal (once in 2 weeks)
  • Collection of information / requirement through suggestion boxes (weekly)
  • Principal’s address with assembly (weekly)
  • Monthly students meet (monthly)
  • GENERAL GUIDELINES

    1. The college starts at 09:30 A.M. and closes at 04:30 PM. normally.
    2. Punctuality, to be practiced throughout the life need to be developed. Every student is expected to be in time for getting into the bus, or getting into the classroom.
    3. Every student should be in the Formal Dress code, while getting into the bus or entering the college campus.
    4. The staff in charge (Bus Marshall) of the bus and the faculty handling the classes will ensure right attire of the students.
    5. CA shall be the leave recommending authority and HOD, the leave approving authority for the students in normal circumstances.
    6. Every student should submit the leave letter in the assigned format and get it approved before availing the leave.
    7. In case of emergency or sickness, they should contact the CA or HOD thro’ telephone and get permission for leave.
    8. Those students who miss the class without proper information / authorization shall submit the leave letter in person after return, (during morning interval or lunch hour) and explain the circumstances and get the leave ratified.

    RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR DAY SCHOLARS

    1. Day-Scholars are expected to get down at the Front Gate and pass through the Security, 15 minutes before the start of the class and 5 minutes after the end of the class.
    2. They shall be under watch till they reach the college lobby by security personal.
    3. Dress code and right attire of students shall be ensured by campus monitoring flying squad in the front gate.
    4. Day Scholars link with hostel students should be restricted to academic and other approved activities only and not supplying Drugs & Cigars or exchange of any prohibited items.
    5. If they are moving out in between, during the class hours they should produce outpass authorized by CA / HOD.

    BEHAVIORAL ASPECTS

  • Students are not allowed to loiter around the campus / carandha during class hours for any reason. Students found responsible for any damage to the college building, furniture or equipment will be penalized and the cost of damages will be recovered from them. The college reserves the right to expel such students.
  • Continuous absence from classes is a serious breach of discipline and may result in expulsion from the college.
  • No student shall take part in any anti-social or subversive activity. No student shall be member of any organization or association not connected with the college.
  • Students shall not collect money from co-students for any purpose, without authorization by the College Authorities.
  • Students are forbidden from organizing Unions or Associations based on caste, color, creed, language, nationality, religion or political ideology with in the campus.
  • Students should not use drugs, liquor or smoke within the college campus. Violations of these rules shall be seriously dealt with and will lead to dismissal of the student from the college / hostel.
  • Students attending the meetings and functions of the college shall maintain good behavior and discipline. Any misbehavior will attract disciplinary action.
  • Students must conduct themselves in a fitting manner at all times so as to bring credit to themselves and the college.
  • Visitors will not be allowed to meet the students during class hours. However under unavoidable circumstances they shall be permitted to meet the student with the permission of the principal / HOD.
  • Internal assessment will be done as per the guidelines of Anna University and the details will be presented in the assembly.
  • Absence for unit tests, Internal Assessment tests, revision tests and model tests will be viewed very seriously. Failed students in these tests should submit the assignment.
  • Students who leave behind their study materials / Lab Coat in the college will be penalized.
  • The college maintains absolute discipline and students violating discipline are liable for severe penalty including expulsion. Student expelled on grounds of indiscipline, will not be entitled to any refund of fees and deposits.
  • Usage of Cell phones / Walkman / Cameras are strictly prohibited in the campus.
  • Celebrations of any kind (Birthday, Valentines Day, etc.) are strictly
  • prohibited.

    RULES OF THE LIBRARY

    The Central Resource Centre (Library) has a good collection of textbooks, reference books, national and international journals, e - journals, CDs and Videos.
    • Online web catalogues and Internet facilities are available.
    • Bar code system has been implemented. Students can borrow books by producing their ID cards.
    • Library books are to be used with utmost care and returned without any damage. Damaged books shall not be accepted.
    • The Library is under surveillance with the aid of video cameras.
    • The library accepts donations of manuscripts, books and journals etc., which are found useful to the students.

  • The library will be kept open for the students and staff from 08:30 A.M. to 07:00 P.M. on all working days and on Saturdays.
  • Strict silence is to be observed in the library and students should conduct themselves decently.
  • Any misconduct like tearing of sheets from book, mutilation of books, marking inside, folding pages, etc., will be dealt seriously and the cost of such books at the prevailing rates will be recovered from the student concerned, besides imposing a fine.
  • Facilities for photocopying of required pages from books are available in the library. Students should pay for the services rendered then and there and the receipt must be obtained from the librarian / library assistant.
  • Students should leave the books on the table after reading and are not expected to replace them on the racks.
  • Each student is eligible to borrow 2 library books at a time.
  • On receiving a book the student should examine the condition of the book. If any damage is found, it should be brought to the notice of the librarian immediately. Otherwise he / she will be held responsible for the damage.
  • Students will be allowed to keep a book for 15 days from the date of issue.
  • A book may be renewed for another period of 15 days. If the book is retained beyond the due date without renewing, student’s library membership will be suspended.
  • Journals and reference books will not be issued to anybody
  • Every member is expected to handle books and magazines of the library with utmost care.
  • The librarian is empowered to send out any student who misbehaves in the library.
  • All student members should return the library tickets at the end of the year and obtain “No Dues Certificate”
  • The (final semester) students should return the books to the library for obtaining “NO Dues Certificate”.
  • Book transaction hours: During Lunch Hour and between 4.30 & 7.00 P.M
  • Borrowers are expected to return the books on or before the due date stamped on the issue label. Books returned after the due date will be charged an over due charge of Rs. 1/- per day.
  • Books may be returned on all working days. Absence from the Institution shall not be an excuse for any delay in returning the books. Books due on a holiday should be returned the next morning and no fine will be collected.
  • In case of any loss of a book by any student, double the cost of the book will be recovered or the book may be replaced with the latest edition.
  • Students are not allowed inside the library without their dress code.
  • Usage of mobile phones is not permitted inside the library.
  • PENALTY FOR VIOLATION OF RULES & REGULATIONS

  • Offences against the state like Ganja usage, alcohol consumption and drugs shall be viewed seriously resulting in heavy fine and suspension.
  • Theft and damages to the college/hostel property will attract heavy compensation; this will be monitored by VP (Admin) regularly.
  • PROGRESS REPORT

    A report card about a student’s progress in curricular activities, attendance conduct will be sent by the HOD to the parents or guardians at the end of the assessment tests. The parents/ guardians have to sign the reports and return it to the college within 10 days receipt. This is an important record meant for all the four years of study. In addition the academic performance in the daily tests and daily attendance will be uploaded in the website for the parent’s information.

    APPEAL TO PARENTS

    Parents and local guardians are requested to cooperate with college authorities in the formation of good character, to maintain regularity in attendance and progress in studies of their children/ wards. When copies of the warning letters are sent to them, they should respond immediately by contacting the respective HOD/ Class Advisor / Residential Advisor to resolve issues concerning their children/ wards and find ways and means of improving the situation. Parents are informed that industrial visits and in-plant training are needed for all students and they should extend all the support to make their wards to make use of it during the monthly vacation (one week). They should also advise their wards to spend their free time either in the library or in discussion with the teaching faculty to enhance their knowledge and wisdom.

    DIRECTIONS FOR TRANSPORT USERS

  • College Bus is an extension of Regular campus, so everyone should maintain the same discipline inside the bus as that of the college.
  • Unauthorized persons entry is restricted in the college bus.
  • Entry is limited for R.A.s and Faculty with prior permission.
  • Students should be seated in the assigned place; standing is not permitted under any circumstances.
  • Students should not stand in the Foot Board.
  • Student should get into the bus with right type of dress code.
  • Students are expected to follow the correct timing announced by the authorities.
  • Bus marshals have the full power to maintain strict discipline inside the bus.
  • Any type of violation should be reported immediately to the higher authorities without fail.
  • Bus marshals should maintain an authorized list of students to travel by the particular bus. They should not allow anybody other than the prescribed list.
  • If there is over speeding and bus reaching the stop early, then marshals are authorized to stop the bus at some point to maintain the correct time from that stop.
  • Students those who miss the bus due to various reasons should come to the college at their own risk.
  • Seating procedure: First – Girl Students, Next – Faculty and the then Boy students.
  • Students should not make any noise inside the bus, or should not talk loudly.
  • Hostellers are not permitted to get into the college bus during regular trips.
  • The bus seating should not exceed the approved capacity
  • GUIDELINES FOR ALUMNI STUDENTS

    Guidelines to be followed towards Alumni Students at Entry & Exit by Security Staff

  • Verify the Alumni Cards.
  • Ask the individual students to make an entry in the register with time and date.
  • Ensure Decent Dress Code and right attire, if not don’t permit them in.
  • ALUMNI STUDENTS COMING TO WRITE UNIVERSITY ARREAR EXAM:

  • Check the students for right attire; don’t permit any deviation.
  • Check the Alumni Card and Hall ticket, date, time, and exam before they enter.
  • Ask the student to make the entry in the login/logout register.
  • POLICY ON MOBILE PHONES IN HOSTEL

  • The students are permitted to have mobile phones inside the hostel buildings on their own risk.
  • The students are solely responsible for their mobile.
  • Any complaints or queries will not be considered by Hostel authorities in case of theft or damage of mobile phones.
  • Making disturbances with mobile phones, to other hostellers is strictly prohibited.
  • Students are discouraged to use mobiles for viewing unethical things in the social web. If found with evidence in such cases, the mobile phone will be seized.
  • The hostellers should not carry the mobile phones to the college campus under any circumstance.
  • POLICY ON MOBILE PHONES FOR DAY SCHOLARS

  • Students shall keep the mobile in silent mode, while getting into the bus.
  • Taking pictures, videos, recording conversations, on any persons inside the Bus / Transport Vehicle on any subject is strictly prohibited. In such unethical circumstances the mobile phone will be seized and it will not be given back.
  • As the Bus / Transport Vehicle reach the Front entrance, the students shall deposit the mobile phones in the given Mobile Bag.
  • That Bag should kept in the mobile rack at the Front Office in the assigned slot while entering and the Bus Marshall Shall get the token from the Security officer and collect the mobile by remitting the token while returning.
  • By mistake if they posses, they should inform the HOD and submit to the Security Officer in the Front Gate, immediately.
  • Usage of Mobile phone is prohibited for students inside the college premises, class rooms, waiting halls, corridors, Labs, Library, canteen, Dining halls and any other place inside the college buildings, during working days and holidays
  • Frequent checking will be done by the monitoring team.
  • The students are solely responsible for their mobile.
  • Any complaints or queries will not be considered by College authorities in case of theft or damage of mobile phones.
  • Making disturbances with mobile phones, to other transport user is strictly prohibited.
  • The students are advised to lock the mobile phone before submitting it to the Bus Marshall / Security Officer in the front gate.
  • On disciplinary issues and enquires the College authorities may check the suspected Mobile phones after getting authorization from Principal.
  • All transport users are advised to follow the instructions very strictly.
  • The Bus Marshall shall collect the mobile phone basket from the Security Officer in front gate by remitting the token in the evening and handover the mobile to the student concerned.
  • Bus Marshalls are given full powers to exercise the guidelines meticulously.
