SPOKEN ENGLISH:
Southern Tamilnadu produces the best academic people (Example: Present 3 Vice Chancellors of Anna University are from south). However vast majority of them suffer from the starting trouble - Spoken English. Knowing fully well, their deficiency, we have introduced special coaching classes from June to August before starting the regular classes; Individuals like, Prof.Sebastian, Dr.Chitra Manohar, Prof.Subramaniam, Rev.Fr.Dr.Packia Raj S.J. and Trinity groups led by Mr.Edwin and others, in addition to our own faculty, gave training through oral, group discussion cultural events and computer. Above all the hostel team for English learning Mission led by our dynamic and enthusiastic students like Ms.Mumtaz, Ms.Roseaz Arashi, Ms.Nikita, Ms.Divya, Ms.Teena, Ms.Maria Kuruvilla, Mr.Ajay Thomas, Mr.Livingston and others made English the Campus language: I can confidently state that out of 240 students we have, around 200 students can speak English fluently; which I consider a great achievement. Hon'ble Vice Chancellor may confirm this during his interaction with the students.
MATHS COACHING:
Being the first batch, in general we have very average students. The proficiency in Maths was not that good. Generally Maths is considered to be a little difficult subject to pass for average Engineering students. We have given special coaching under the leadership of Mrs.Santhi, our HOD. I am extremely glad to state that we have overall 87 % pass in Maths; specially ECE department achieved 95.5%
COMPUTER TRAINING:
We have more than 40% of our students from Tamil medium and Biology section, who were not exposed to Computer earlier. Effective Training methods were introduced which helped these beginners to learn the computer Programming in the shortest time making an over all pass % of 84 in Fundamental of Computing & Programming Subject.
CULTURAL PROGRAMME:
Within a week of starting the regular classes as per Anna University , our beloved students organised the teachers day function on Sep 5. It was an excellent program followed with a fine cultural programme. We understood the skills of our students at that stage itself. In Jan 2009 they participated in the Fine Arts program organised by St.Xavier's Catholic College , and our students brought laurels to our Institution, by winning the overall Championship right at the first year. The cups are displayed to show their great achievement. Again within another one month, they participated in the Cultural Competition organised by Vaigai TV in association with WCC. Our students performed very well and became the runner up among 57 colleges that participated.
SPORTS:
Right at the first year, our students team participated in the Games and Athletic meet organised by Anna University and gained experience. Among boys, Mr.Sandy John got the first prize in 20 KM walk. Mr.Shijo Joseph & Mr.Thanasekar took the II & IV place in Decathlon. Mr.Surya Kumar came fourth in Javelin throw. Mr.Shijo Joseph came fourth in Pole vault. Among girls, Ms.Abisha Sherin took third place in Heptathlon. Ms.Sahaya Shalu came fourth in 100 m and fifth in long Jump. Our girls team came 4 th in the 4 x 100 m relay. It may not be a great achievement for established colleges, but it is definitely an achievement for a first year college like ours.
Science Association:
E ven at the very First Semester we have inaugurated the Science and Humanities Association, known as SAHA. Dr.Y.S.Rajan, the former Scientific Secretary of ISRO and a long time associate and speech writer of our former president Dr.A.P.J.Abdulkalam inaugurated the SAHA. Through his carefully planned interactions, he exalted the students to take bold initiatives like ISRO scientists did, and bring name and fame to their Alma Mater. In association with the District Science forum, We organised the youth Science Seminar, with the view to expose our youth to the Science and to propagate scientific thinking among the students of 9 th 10 th , +1 & +2 students of the schools in Kanyakumari District. Our students undertook industrial visit to hydel power plant at Papanasam and Electrical Wind mill Farm at Muppandal.
PARENTS MEET :
Normally, Self financing colleges do not conduct the Parents Meet, since they fail to fulfil the commitments made during admission. Here, we have conducted a full Parent's meet on Nov 15 th 2008, with 170 parents participating. Many expressed their appreciation and anticipation. As a follow up, we had 2 Parents Teachers representatives meeting already. We discuss every issue threadbare, whether it is academic, sports, cultural, medical, hostel or Mess. We share our views and translate those that are identified into action.
NOW TO COME TO ACADEMIC ACHIEMENTS:
Out of 240 students appeared for University Exam 148 students passed in all subjects; getting a pass percentage of 62%. In Anna University Tirunelveli, I am extremely glad to state that we are in the 12 th rank. With little additional effort and final touch we can move towards 4 th rank. We work towards getting the result in line with our ECE class performance which would make us in par with the best college - MEPCO - in this region. So the day to reach the top rank in Anna University Tirunelveli is not far off.
NOW ABOUT OUR STAFF:
LITES faculty are a disciplined committed and dedicated lot, prepared to sacrifice their time for the growth of our students. Unlike the faculty members of Govt Colleges, who come, teach and go, our staff do an additional work. They identify the weak students as GII & G III and give them special coaching in the evening depending upon their learning speed. They counsel and mentor the weak students and ensure them a pass, thus raising their confidence level. Normally a college like ours having 240 students is expected to have 16 teachers (1:15 ratio) but we have 23 teachers to care for our students.
PLACEMENT :
In addition to communicative English & Computer Skills, Special/Separate periods are allotted every week for 'quantitative Aptitude' to learn shortcut methods to solve the problems, and to develop reasoning skills. Group discussions, (for freely presenting their views in small groups) are organised for two periods on alternate weeks. Two specialized teachers are identified for this purpose.
Extending help to the needy neighbour:
Our college is located in the rural area. The students around this region are very weak in their knowledge of basic English and computer. Hence we have one month training programme in May every year for the students of nearby villages who have written their SSLC & +2 exam.
Our college bus picks up these students at 8.30 AM; 2 hrs of Spoken English & 1½hrs of computer practical training are given as part of our social obligation to the nearby needy villages.
MORNING ASSEMBLY, COUNSELLING & SPIRITUAL ACTIVITIES:
Every week on Monday morning, we have Morning Assembly, to train our students (on rotation basis) to acquire presentation skills. In addition to regular hymn, prayers, and bible reading, a student gives the thought for that day. Important events and plans for that week will be announced by the Principal.
Two Counsellors specially trained to address youth problems are available for counseling our students on day to day basis.
Holy Mass is offered in our campus regularly by the Priests of Rajavoor Parish. Special meetings and Meditation are organised by the Sisters of Clunny Convent on alternate Saturdays. In addition to it the lay people are invited to conduct conventions once in a month.
These are all the blessings we have received from the Almighty during this academic year and we thank God and all those associated with us for achieving this!
I thank the organising team specially the convener, Mr.Jack for his excellent arrangement. To end this report, If I have missed to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of any of my associates and friends, it is not intentional. Kindly pardon me.
Thank you for your patient hearing.
This was followed by the cultural programme of our students and vote of thanks.

Q. RURAL EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM: MAY 2009 |
|
Out of 240 students admitted, 200 students could speak English very well during the very first year, even though many of them came from rural background with Tamil medium. This was demonstrated while Dr. K.Kaliappan, Vice - chancellor of Anna University visited us on 18/04/2009.
For one full month in May 2009, the SSLC, +1 & +2 students of Rajavoor village were transported to our college and were given training to speak in English and to familiarize computer operation. This has given confidence and enhanced their capacity and empowered them to become leaders in course of time.

R. SPIRITUAL ACTIVITIES |
|
Behavior & Attitude makes a human complete. Spirituality supports this relam in making our Engineers as world class Engineers. We not only take care of our budding Engineers academically, but also we give them spiritual experience. We also facilitate Counseling and group dynamics programme for the students periodically, so that they enrich their personality and character in their carrier and for their life.
We arrange/offer Holy Mass and Praise & Worship Programme on every Sundays for all Christian students. Every Tuesday we conduct recollection, to empower our students in their mind and body. Such special spiritual programmes foster the students to face any issues diplomatically and logically.
We celebrated our first Christmas Carol Programme in a grand manner. Rev. Fr. Godwin, Rev. Sr. Therez and other sisters from Clunny convent graced the occasion with their valuable presence and their Christmas message. The birth of our Saviour gave us new Hope, Joy and Love within us. The choirs of Angels sang 'Gloria' in inviting the new born babe to bring peace to the human kind.
Every week on Monday morning, we have Morning Assembly, to train our students (on rotation basis) to acquire presentation skills. In addition to regular hymn, prayers, and bible reading, a student gives the thought for that day extensively quoting from the bible.
